Divided into three main axis, the exhibition is curated by and also presents the Burle Marx Institute collection and emphasizes urban ecology projects designed by Burle Marx and his team in the city of São Paulo, a dialogue between his projects and renowned architects such as Rino Levi and Paulo Mendes da Rocha, in addition to unpublished, unexecuted proposals for public spaces in the city such as Parque Trianon, Parque Ibirapuera, Vale do Anhangabaú and Praça da Sé. The exhibition also highlights the environmental activism and pioneering efforts of Burle Marx in defending the preservation of South American biomes with the idea of projects for green cities.
At the event, the public could see the landscaper's most iconic projects and a vertical “Ephemeral Garden” at the entrance to the building on Avenida Paulista, in addition to the exhibition of an animation on the FIESP building.
The pieces selected for the exhibition reflect the plurality of the work of seven decades through drawings, models, project plans, sketches, photographs, and videos, emphasizing the contemporaneity of Burle Marx's narrative and his legacy to rethink the experience of life in cities and the construction of public spaces.
Burle Marx thought beyond his time; already in his time (40-50 years ago) he sought to put into practice issues as current as the renaturalization of cities. He was able to have a long-term vision, so important to the development of large cities, which today feel the need to review their models and structures due to the intense soil sealing and lack of green spaces.
The modules “Urban Ecologist” and “Projects in São Paulo” end up taking on a more political tone, in which some of the projects developed by Burle Marx and collaborators for the city of São Paulo, at the request of the public authorities, are presented.
