Activity

Building upon the contributions of Burle Marx and his collaborators, the Institute aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and reflections, broaden partnerships, and connect with initiatives promoting the right to the city and equity, which enable the exploration and development of new alternatives for the future.

BMI seeks to engage in dialogue and conceive a new perspective on this legacy, highlighting the role of other actors directly involved in Burle Marx's artistic and landscape production: creative partners, architects, botanists, gardeners, modernist personalities, and artists of the time.

The Institute is committed to building a more promising, egalitarian and inclusive future. We believe in what we call “possible utopias”, projects that can be dreamed of collectively, with boldness and responsibility. To achieve this, we were inspired by the legacy of Burle Marx and based our actions on three areas of activity: environment, art and culture and education.

Within the areas in which the Institute operates, we propose some thematic axes, which act as guiding threads for the dialogues we wish to foster. We always start from a collective perspective and action, valuing networks, exchanges, partnerships, ideas and joint creations that help us dream and build possible city utopias, thinking about urban spaces in an inclusive, democratic and welcoming way. We believe that the path to this construction necessarily passes through the uncompromising defense of the environment, with the valorization of national biomes and with a profound rethinking of the human-nature relationship. And we understand that artistic expression, beauty, aesthetics, creativity, innovation and boldness, freedom of experience/experimentation are intrinsically linked to this construction of more human, accessible and plural environments.

Strategic Partnerships

The Burle Marx Institute, through the power of the Burle Marx legacy narrative, will join forces in coordination and partnership with other civil society organizations, especially those working in the fields of youth, diversity, education, environment, and culture. We will propose and join initiatives that promote experimentation and effective mobilizations, generating concrete experiences for the construction of a more democratic and collective future in cities. Institutionally, we seek to establish exchanges and synergies for mutual learning and strengthening of organizations.
